In Dragonback Mountains
I've been thinking heavily on Grutzi's email about our strategy with Coppercore. The hard part for me is deciding what we cut....and what we need to add. Core Rules I think I'm just going to vote for For Gold & Glory for now. It's 2e, which we are familiar with. I think our material will still be sought after as we have a bit of a 1e style of minimalism with stat blocks, and we don't write story railroads (or try not too). I'm not necessarily opposed to having a few adventures out there for Labyrinth Lord (I think Prince is using that core system for his stuff) or OSRIC or whatever as it may reach a bigger audience? What do you guys think? Base Setting "This is just the bare bones stuff that everyone needs to know about the dragonback mountains. A rough history Infos about the Verloren (Clansmen and Allamani alike) like basic culture, customs and such stuff Basics about spirits, banngeister and the spirit world, Basic infos regarding Dwarves and Elves The druidic circle The major settlements A rough map." Alright...here's my opinions on this as I'd like to get a road map going for a strategic plan on how we are going to present this thing. A Rough History: I think if we can clean the history that we got in what I'll call Chapter 1, it would work. I think the history could actually be a little more final than rough. Other components could be added later of course. Verloren and Allamani: I think we got all the stuff here, just need to cut some out. I'm visualizing that you mean we say the minimum--i.e. The Verloren have clans.....then in our Subregion Coppercore we can break down those clans like we have with shaman and leader names, etc. Shamans/Warlocks: I'm wondering if we write a very minimal class, 1-2 pages--maybe taking Jon's simpler writeup. Maybe instead of spirit banishment, we just use the Turn table or something. No new rules really, something that everyone can use. REALLY keep it all minimum. I feel since shamans are pretty important to the setting, their should be a rough way to make them. Then we take Grutzi's writeup as its own Zine. Other Classes: I think we could take this entire section out and put it in Subregion Coppercore, EXCEPT we should state how mages are frowned upon and rare as well as clerics, etc....? Spirits/Banngeisters: this could be pretty minimal. We would need to write this part up. Dwarves/Elves: Like Grutzi said, we provide a little more info so that a player has some background to work with when making their character. The Druidic Circle: Again, more info here...maybe some names and general rites. Also how shamans and druids are with each other. (I could see this being its own book with different rites, new spells, and I got that druid adventure written up already...). The Major Settlements: We could discuss each with a little more detail. I think we are almost there? Rough Map: I think we figure out how to scan Jon's newest drawing of the map. I could also try digitizing it. Or we do both... I made a To Do spreadsheet. Nothing is concrete in there, so if you see your name on something you really don't want to do, just holler, or if there is something you want to work on--add your name to list. I'm just trying to get a game plan going. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cZm6BNC2VHI1VX9ZQ-K-Ytb7KZw29Un6VRh0SSwlA-w/edit?usp=sharing I'd really like to get a Kickstarter going for this around November or December...for Base Setting, Jon.0, Subregion: Coppercore, Shaman/Warlock Zine.....is that a pipe dream? I think we are almost there...

Hey all, On the For Gold & Glory Facebook page, there has been murmurings of creating a new 2e retroclone. The main reason is because FG&G was never promoted and its creators basically disappeared. This has led to zero support from a community. I'm sure people are all tired of new retroclones, as I hear that all the time. I also know that Jon and I have been working on publishing some of our own houserules--but it's mainly optional rules for people and don't think either of us have the bandwidth to really promote and launch a serious retro-clone. Christopher Barnhardt of Mad Martian Games has been working on this new 2e retro-clone and asked me for help. Mad Martian Games has done quite a bit of work, mainly launching the Ice Kingdoms setting and some adventures (that Bryce ripped apart). He wants a supported 2e retroclone, with good art and layout. He shared 1/5 books with me, hoping Ill edit and take a look. He seems to have a decent following and I think he has the energy to promote a 2e retroclone appropriately. I told him I'm pretty busy, but I do like the idea of a collective front for a well-supported and promoted 2e retro-clone. We might get more support for some of our products. I see an opportunity here where Mad Martian Games could take the lead on a retro-clone, and we could write material for it instead of the 'dead' FG&G. The Merciless Merchants is pretty OSR friendly--you can write for your favorite retro-clone (Labyrinth Lord, OSRIC, etc.). It doesn't really matter to me. But I know Jon and I have been trying to follow 2e rules (but with a 1e dungeon vibe), so I'm wondering if we would get more support by following along with this new retro-clone. I attached the first book if you want to look at it BUT PLEASE DON'T SHARE WITH ANYONE ELSE.

Hey guys, Got a cool email today and thought I would share. This guy joined the City of Vermilion kickstarter awhile back. This is what he wrote me out of the blue today: "Hi, I ordered some of your adventures from Lulu some weeks ago and I started readinf them only now: I'm speechless! They're plenty of beautiful (terrible for my players!) ideas! Where can I buy more adventures? Is there a campaign settings book? I have to thank Ks for if I were not a backer I would never found these awesome merchants. Thanks, Francesco"

Coins and treasure can get boring....the idea of this supplement would be to think up uses for different things that may enhance powers and/or skills. For example, what if instead of using powdered iron for the Enlarge spell, you used powdered stone giant bones? Would the spell be enhanced? Or if you use ankheg acid--would Melf's Arrow do more damage or would something else happen? This book will focus on Monster Harvesting and the type of components/ingredients one can acquire that may or may not help with spells or potions. Instead of running for the gold, the wizard or thief might be hurriedly collecting troll blood instead.... I think I'd also combine our own Recipe books as well. Finding alchemy recipes could be like finding new spells on a scroll--it can be pretty cool!. Alchemy recipes, maybe forging technique recipes for different armor/weapons, poison recipes and different types of poisons--instead of Class III, what about some more flair and pizazz on what happens?! Maybe we come up with a layout design for it and people can just throw random ideas down following the layout, and when it seems full, we can cut and paste and publish a supplement with some art.

This is the area of elves. There will be a few adventures that are in the Woods of Loss, some info about elves, etc. Jon has stuff set in stone for connecting some of it with Coppercore (Lord Brie, his sister, etc.), and also has some adventures within--Tree of Sorrow. Other ideas--maybe a big battle going on with the Unseelie Court...banngeists..etc? The idea is to make it wondrous and full of fey...trees that glow only in the moonlight, etc.

In The Mammoth Clan
Grützi is spear-heading this adventure. It deals with an old, extinct (?), Verloren barbarian clan that is lost in the Spirit World. When he is done, we will combine it with Malrex's adventure--Winter's Feast, which also deals with the Mammoth Clan.

This is an adventure that is near City of Vermilion. I was going to have it as an appendix inside Vermilion but decided to make it it's own product....maybe...might just stick it in the City. May release Jellyfish Dilemma, then Lone Palm Atoll--to give me time to finish City of Vermilion. Anyways, this adventure deals with an atoll that contains a lair of intelligent, evil jellyfish. Bunch of different shit happening in the atoll. It's a maze of coral...characters can swim above the maze, but its swarming with sharks...like, I watched a Nature Show on TV and saw a shitload of sharks hunting--it was intense. A few different factions in the atoll and some weird stuff to explore and find. No sahaugin!! Introduce Coral Dragon. Map is all done Rough notes all done--all keyed areas are accounted for. Just need to write it up, digitize maps, then need editor. Not sure when Ill have time for all that yet...

Waiting on editor who I will never use again... Waiting on more feedback Waiting on more playtests Need to tweak Level 3 and make a map--may hire a artist for that part of the map. Will run a Kickstarter--very small one..$500? depends on art and cover page. This one is almost done.

Failed Kickstarter, but that's ok! Learned a lot. Currently expanding the city and creating some more dungeon areas, buildings, etc. This is a big project and doubling the size. Everything is cross referenced...will need an editor--hoping Ynas. Since expanding, it's going to need more work with making everything make sense, etc. Will run another Kickstarter, but this time no fancy print job or expensive editors or other bullshit that jacked up the price...mainly just for art.

This adventure will start out in Coppercore at the Loremaster Guild. There is a old portal made of tree roots within. This adventure is still really rough. Basically, the main teacher/npc goes missing through the portal. The portal takes people to a pocket dimension deep into some mountains with a lake. It was designed to challenge bards to help with training...but now its kinda warped as the main bad guy is trying to change it up. Basically the party enters and: 1. They come to a village on the shores of the lake. No one speaks--it's taboo. (These are all bards who failed the test). 2. At 10 AM, a figure is always seen on the edge of the woods--A wendigo (guardian?) always takes a child every 2 years...people fear the wendigo, but it has never attacked anyone and always takes the child to train into a ranger or bard or something.....the wendigo actually protects the village from the music band (see 11 pm). 3. At noon, everyone in the village enters their homes and bar the doors. The lake's mist dries up and there is an island...viking ships come to the island with skeletons looking for people to kill and loot...this happens every day. Going to the island the bard finds some clues and may be able to take a ship and float to a different dimension or something... 4. At 2 pm, offerings are sent to the Goat Men. These guys are like mountain goats + minotaur+ man. Instead of butting people, they have psionics to 'butt' people'. If offerings are not sent, goat men come down the mountain and attack. 5. At 5 pm, a huge bonfire is lit at the edge of the village. A fire spirit/witch comes to the bonfire but then leaves after a hour or so. If no bonfire, the witch charms/takes someone from the village... 6. 11 pm, a 'rock band' is in the woods that play music to draw villagers into the woods. There is a ettin drummer and other weird monsters playing drums and shit.... 7. Under the village is a basement where talking can occur for 1 hour but ONLY for the person that holds the Talking Stick. The villagers take turns....the walls have glyphs with clues about whats going on with answers that deal with music notes/keys....When each challenge is figured out and/or complete (vikings, goat men, witch, etc.), a glyph glows. When all glows, a secret door opens into a dungeon. All monsters encounter use sounds as attacks...the last room is completely silent. Dungeon is shaped like a ear canal? This adventure is a bit weird, but working with Mark on this one to shape it up so its playable.

This adventure deals with a river island that is the grove of Zharet the Hivemaster. Zaret shares his home with bees and walks around with a beehive as a backpack. There are several new spells involving bees. At first, I had a series of quests around the island for different levels of druids, until finally, the PC could challenge Zharet to a duel to go up a level. But I'm going to change that and leave most of that for the Trainer supplement, and just focus on the Azure Hellflower adventure. The Azure Hellflower basically shrinks the party and the party needs to enter and figure out what's going on. I may add onto it a little bit and would like to hire a artist/cartographer for the flower map because it's a bit outside my skillset.

This adventure is in the Thornbriar Wilderness. I may keep some of the 'bones' I have with this adventure but improve upon it. May take some suggestions from Squeen and others, for example: 1. Dramen Blarr is too boring...maybe the trainer is a talking stump who smokes a pipe...lol. 2. A cursed pool that is mutating animals as the main problem? or perhaps its something under a lake? 3. Change lizardman village to Triturus (newt-men). 4. Enhance the factions between Triturus and the hobgoblins or orcs or whatever humanoids I have in there. 5. Check the Raven Clan tomb and either ditch it or enhance it. Totally open to other ideas on this one.

After some feedback at Bryce Lynch's forums from my Special Area: The Ranger's Hideout, I decided to take down the adventure to re-work it and re-think the idea. Here's my thoughts: 1. I want to make a supplement that describes class trainer locations for each class. They should be areas that could almost be plugged in anywhere with some fleshed out NPC's. There could be some 1-2 paragraph scenarios that help a DM be creative to run off with their own for small tasks/quests. For example, for the Ranger's Hideout, Ill have a map of the treefort and the main NPC that can train PC characters...and I'll do the same thing for each class. 2. I want to make adventures for each class--for small groups (1-4 characters). Each adventure, will start off in the trainer location. For example, for the Ranger's Hideout, the adventure may be to find out why animals are becoming mutated in part of the forest. The adventure will attempt to focus on situations where a ranger's skill comes into play (stealth, stalking, animal empathy, etc.). The adventure can still be played without a ranger, but it will be designed to make a ranger character shine. I'll do something similar for each class. So far: 1. Rangers--need to redo. 2. Druids--mostly finished, but will need to tweak. Have training area and NPC complete. Adventure is complete and play tested--needs final touches. Need to find artist/cartographer for the Azure Hellflower portion. 3. Bards--rough maps, notes, and adventure is in my head. Working with college buddy Mark on this one. 4. Assassins--a book of solo missions? This could be kinda cool...haven't really seen a book for just assassin missions. 5. Fighters--some sort of training school--have some of it in my head already. I keep seeing a big circular platform up in the mountains...and a marilith...maybe at the Blademaster School... 6. Mages--open 7. Clerics--open 8. Monks--something in the Fallen Lands...some sort of monastary. Maybe they guard water? 9. Paladins--Red Prophet Rises. Need training area though. 10. Thief--open. A clever and really cool thief hideout....maybe rival thief gangs...fighting on the streets? 11. Barbarians--could do something with a Verloren clan in Dragonback Mts. 12. Psionicist--completely open. I suck with psionicists... 13. Warlocks? 14. Other?

Special Areas is being spearheaded by Malrex. In 2nd edition, there is proficiencies, weapon specialization, etc. Sometimes these things are hand-waved as people want to get on with the adventure. But what if everyone can't make it that night? These adventures (initially created as 1 vs. 1 or small parties) could easily be plugged in for some characters to get a little bit extra experience, roleplay with a trainer, and/or do an adventure where specific class abilities may shine.

The Dragonback Mountain setting is Jon's compilation of handwritten "stuff" that he has worked on for like 38+ years. Jon gets final word on what goes on in here--but I've found him to be pretty flexible and very open to ideas. Some of his stuff is bare bones and there is room to explore. If something grabs your interest that you want to expand on, reach out to Jon or whoever is in charge of the certain project to hash out your ideas.

This is big...need to type up Jon's handwritten scrawl. All the maps will need to be digitized. First 2 levels are in the Coppercore adventure. A big seal covers the rest. This dungeon goes down several layers... Basically the rough draft is done, but its all hand written...so need to type it up, digitize maps, think about how to do layout for it (like Stonehell? or something different), spice it up a bit with some new ideas and get it off the ground.
